Father of all massage therapies
Tui Na is an ancient form of massage used for therapeutic purposes in China for more than 5,000 years. The name tui na (pronounced “twee nah”) consists of two actions: tui means “to push,” and na means “to lift and squeeze.”
Tension is who you think you should be. Relaxation is who you are.
Tui Na treats patients holistically, focusing on physical, mental, and spiritual wellness and empowering the ‘’positive energy’’ of the body. The Tui Na practitioner stimulates specific points on the body in more than 60 different manipulations utilizing their fingers, hands, elbows, and forearms.
Anyone who wants to avoid the side effects of drugs or a chemical-based treatment can benefit from this effective massage technique to alleviate their pain. Since it is a modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine focusing on the same principles, Tui Na can also be used as a complement to acupuncture to enhance the overall efficacy of the treatment.
Tui na massage therapy is now becoming a popular therapy method due to its focus on specific problems rather than providing a general treatment.
Tui Na massage therapy is customized for each individual.
It is excellent for addressing all types of chronic or acute pain, such as:
- Neck and shoulder pain
- Back and hip pain
- Shoulder joint pain
- Leg and ankle pain
- Arthritis
- Sciatica
- Muscle spasms
- Insomnia
- Constipation
- All disorders of the digestive, respiratory, and reproductive systems.
Unlike Western massage techniques, Tui Na goes beyond the muscles, bones, and joints to work on a deeper, energetic level with the body. Tui Na practitioner intends to sense the client’s energy and affects the flow and distribution of that energy during the session.
Like Thai massage and Shiatsu, Tui Na is traditionally practiced on fully clothed clients. You should wear loose, comfortable clothing to ensure the practitioner can move your joints through the full range of motion. In a Tui Na, massage oils are mainly used on the neck, hands, and feet.
